What we do

Joan Mitchell studio in France, 1957

The thoughtful, generous, in-depth group studio visit is our principle tool. When an artist needs a crit, she lets us know, and we organize a diverse mix of our members to meet at her studio and spend two hours in thoughtful discussion. This meeting also provides us an opportunity to meet other peer artists and to build community.

Our mission is to create a community of international, English speaking, working women artists, as well as curators, critics, collectors and professionals in the arts, willing to engage in interesting, critical, ongoing discussion about an artist’s work-in-progress with three objectives: to develop a community able to support the growth of its members, to support its members’s artistic growth, to increase the usefulness of oneATELIER to its member artists and to the cultural life of Paris

We provide and support a network of serious, working artists and art professionals in the Paris area. We became an French association in April 2025 and will be broadening our activities as we work to meet the growth needs of our members.

If you are a working artist with a studio in the Paris area, or if you are a curator, a writer or a professional in the arts, and would like to join our association, please write to us in the contact.

Meet the Founders

We are two working artists who moved to Paris from different parts of the world and struggled with similar challenges when we arrived. We found it difficult to meet other international artists, and little context in which to build relationships and carry out ongoing, intellectual conversations about our work and ideas.
When we talked about our shared experiences we realized that there had to be more of us, perhaps enough of us to create a community! So, we founded oneATELIER.
We hope that oneATELIER will provide women artists in Paris with a much-needed friendship, as well as ongoing, productive, critical conversations. We think that the intimacy of our ateliers are the best places to have them, one at a time.

After living in the UK for many years, fate and Brexit brought Peihang Benoit to Paris at the end of 2019, right before Covid. Peihang realized that, although she found herself in one of the greatest cities in the world for artists, not having studied in France nor having any previous context with Paris, meant that she spent much of her time working alone in the studio, without an artist community to engage with.

She wishes that there had been a community like oneATELIER when she had arrived in Paris.

    About:
Peihang is a graduate from Chelsea College of Art and National Taiwan Normal University. Originally from Taiwan, she spent her childhood in the U.S. , studied and worked in the UK, and is now based in Paris with her family.

She explores time, space, memory and identity in her overall practice. She has created a poetic, personal language in paint of intimate, everyday perceptions whose roots are traceable back to her family history of displacement and her more recent migratory and cosmopolitan experiences.
